Program Description: A Healthcare MBA that Works
The MBA in Healthcare Management combines the rigorous
curriculum of an MBA with in-depth analysis of the healthcare
industry. However, our program goes beyond the subject matter
traditionally associated with Masters in Health degrees, covering
critical areas such as organizational leadership, operations, cost-
benefit analysis, statistical modeling, healthcare marketing,
strategic use of information technology and business plan
development.
Course requirements: The curriculum consists of 20 courses,
comprising 66 credit hours. Half of these courses are required and
focus on business fundamentals. The remaining 10 courses – of
which seven are requisite and three elective – are centered on the
healthcare industry and the skills and knowledge central to that
field. In addition, 400 hours of an internship or relevant business
experience is required for full-time matriculated students.
Core courses: The following required courses provide a solid
foundation for your MBA: Probability, Statistics, Financial
Accounting, Managerial Accounting and Finance, Economics,
Marketing, Operations Management, Managing People, Strategic
Use of Information Technology, and Business Law. Additionally, as
a Healthcare Management student, you’ll also take Introduction to
Health Systems and Health Systems Management.
The Capstone: Typically the final course towards earning your
degree, the Capstone draws on the skills and knowledge you’ve
gained throughout the curriculum. Working with industry experts,
you will analyze a case study in light of the strategic and practical
requirements of today’s healthcare environment.
