Q: What degree programs are offered at the Union Graduate College School of Management?
A: The School of management offers two MBA degree options: a general MBA with the option to select one of three focus areas and an MBA in Healthcare Management.
Q: Does the School of Management offer Certificate programs?
A: Yes. We offer two six-course course Certificate programs; Human Resource Management and Management & Leadership. The application process for a Certificate program is similar to the MBA application process except the GMAT is not required for a Certificate. Many students who complete a Union Graduate College Certificate elect to continue with the MBA. Up to four courses completed in a Certificate can be applied toward the MBA. Certificate students must apply to the MBA program, including submitting a GMAT score.
Q: Can I complete a Certificate as part of my MBA program?
A: Yes. Students already in the MBA program can configure coursework to meet the requirements of a Certificate and graduate with the MBA and a Certificate. However, a maximum of four courses completed in a Certificate program can be applied toward the MBA.
Q: How long will it take to complete my MBA?
A: Students generally complete their program in 2 academic years if attending full-time. Part-time students generally complete the MBA in about 3 years although the pace of study is very individual. Some full time students join the program through an Articulation Agreement with one of our partner schools. When students waive up to eight courses as sometimes happens through the Articulation Agreement, it is possible to complete the MBA degree in one year.
Q: If I did not graduate from an undergraduate Articulation partner school, will I still have courses eligible for waiver?
A: Yes. With the approval of the Admissions Committee, coursework completed with a B- or better at other institutions may be counted toward the MBA degree. It requires two undergraduate courses in a particular subject to waive a similar graduate course. For example, a student who took Accounting I and Accounting II and received a B- or above in both, are eligible to waive the core Accounting course in the MBA program. Each of the undergraduate courses must be worth at least three semester hours or five quarter hours to be considered. Waiving courses reduces the total number of course required for the MBA.
Q: Can I begin study without matriculating in the MBA program?
A: Yes. Students who meet the GPA requirement can take up to three courses on a non-matriculated basis by submitting all transcripts and an application. The remaining admission requirements must be completed and the student accepted into a program to continue coursework beyond three courses.
Q: Do you offer merit scholarship and student work-study?
A: Yes. The MBA program offers merit scholarship based on undergraduate GPA combined with GMAT score. Students are automatically considered for scholarship and are notified of their award in their admission offer letter. We do offer some graduate work-study. Q: What is your job placement rate?
A: For the MBA graduating class of June 2007, 89% were working in career positions within 3 months of graduation. By six months after graduate, 93% of our graduates were working in career positions. This is generally on par with the previous 3 graduating years.
Q: Is it beneficial to have work experience before entering an MBA program?
A: Sometimes it is, however the Union Graduate College MBA program does require previous work experience. Many students begin MBA study immediately after undergraduate graduation. That said, we believe work experience is beneficial and therefore require all full-time MBA students to complete a 400 hour graduate internship during the MBA program. The internship gives the student relevant business experience. Most internships are paid and we have a staff person available to assist students in securing the internship. Part-time students are not required to complete an internship.
Q: How do I get an advisor?
A: Students are automatically assigned an academic advisor once they matriculate. Joanne Fitzgerald is the advisor to non-matriculated students.
